From 4 to 7 December 2026 in Lyon, the Tung Lineage Institute welcomes Alvin Cheng 程希智 for four days of intensive Tung acupuncture training.
A disciple of Dr Li Kuo-cheng 李國政, himself a disciple of Dr Hu Wen-chih 胡文智, Alvin Cheng transmits a practice directly connected to this Taiwanese lineage.
Tung acupuncture has developed through different transmissions. Some knowledge can be understood through books. Other knowledge is transmitted through observation, practice, and direct work with a teacher.
This training gives you access to this second dimension.
Alvin Cheng has been teaching in Taiwan for more than twenty years and comes to share the principles he received through his own lineage. Over four days, you will be able to:
- study principles of point selection;
- understand the logic behind point combinations;
- work with clinical applications;
- practice palm diagnosis;
- study bloodletting methods;
- deepen your understanding of qì 氣;
- put your knowledge into practice.

Understanding and mastering Tung points

Two days devoted to points and combination principles
This first module provides a comprehensive introduction to the principles of point selection transmitted within Alvin Cheng’s lineage. You will study:
- fundamental principles of Tung points;
- their selection logic;
- point combinations;
- treatment protocol construction;
- clinical applications;
- point location and use.
The objective is not simply to leave with another list of points.
It is to understand the principles that allow you to select and combine them.

Two days to deepen your practice
The second module focuses on more advanced dimensions of Alvin Cheng’s transmission. You will study:
- the principles of Xīn 心 / Qì 氣 / Shén 神;
- palm diagnosis;
- bloodletting methods;
- qì 氣 tonification;
- their clinical applications.
Palm diagnosis plays an important role in this part of the training.
The goal is not simply to learn a map. You will learn to observe information present in the hand and integrate it into your clinical reasoning.

Alvin Cheng 程希智
A transmission from Taiwan
Alvin Cheng 程希智 is a disciple of Dr Li Kuo-cheng 李國政, himself a disciple of Dr Hu Wen-chih 胡文智.
This lineage places his teaching within a Taiwanese transmission of Tung acupuncture.
With a doctorate in acupuncture from Guangzhou University of Chinese Medicine, Alvin Cheng has been teaching for more than twenty years and has published several books on Tung acupuncture in Taiwan.
His teaching offers an opportunity to approach the practice through what he received within his own transmission and through his clinical experience.
One lineage, multiple transmissions
The Tung Lineage Institute studies Tung acupuncture through multiple transmissions and their sources.
Alvin Cheng’s course offers a different opportunity: to meet directly with a teacher from one branch of the lineage and study what he transmits.
This approach complements the One-Year Program. The One-Year Program provides a framework for comparing, understanding, and organising different areas of knowledge. Courses with Taiwanese teachers allow you to meet directly with practitioners who carry these transmissions.
The two approaches are complementary.
